Jie Shao (b. 1994, Zhejiang, China) is an artist based in Queens, New York. Through sculpture and printmaking, Shao’s practice unfolds the trajectories of materials, traversing from geographical landscapes to mass production, unveiling their integration within the art landscape. Shao received BFA from the China Academy of Art in 2016 and MFA in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design in 2020. Shao currently teaches at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn.
Shao’s solo exhibition include WU JIN at Schein Space (2025); Under Table, Albany (2022); "No, it is opposition, IS A Gallery, Shanghai (2021). Their residency includes NARS Foundation (2023), Vermont Studio Center (2023). Selected group exhibitions include Forging / Foraging, NARS (2023); Passage, AIKE Gallery (2023).
Shao is also the co-founder of artist collaboration Pararailing, an interdisciplinary group focused on collaborative practice beyond exhibition, writing, and spatial experiments. Pararailing exhibitions include 601 Artspace, New York (2024); current plans, Hong Kong (2022). Their publications have been featured at Printed Matter, LA Art Book Fair (2025); Available Works, NY Art Book Fair (2025); Hardcore Art Book Fair, Mexico City (2025). Earlier publications were included in BOOKED: Hong Kong Art Book Fair (2021) and UNFOLD: Shanghai Art Book Fair (2021), and have been archived in the Chinese Modern Art Archive (CMAA) at Peking University (2021).
