Danqing Xu

Hangzhou, China

B.1987

Representative works

Xu Danqing was born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province in 1987. In 2010, she graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at the China Academy of Art, obtaining a Bachelor's degree. In 2016, she graduated from the same department at the China Academy of Art, earning a Master's degree. Currently, she works and resides in Hangzhou. She is well-remembered for her light and abundant abstract paintings, which are characterized by graceful organic lines.

The medium of airbrushing is repeatedly mentioned in Xu Danqing's artistic creations. With an airbrush in her hand, she evenly and gently sprays paint onto the canvas. The layered spatial levels are distinct yet seamlessly connected, creating a somewhat surreal visual impression amidst the ambiguity. Her works exclude linear temporal narration and instead utilize the extension and interweaving of color patches to create an abstract spatial tonality. There is a certain "inner voice" in her paintings, from which infinite emotions and musical notes emerge. Each voice yearns for authenticity, tranquility, and freedom.
